D’Iberville firefighters rescue one from burning home

One person has been flown to the USA Medical Center after D’Iberville fire and police rescued them from a house fire Wednesday night.

Fire Chief Gerald Smith said D’Iberville Fire and Police responded to a call about a house fire and found heavy flames coming from the back of the residence on Whetstone Road.

Firefighters and officers rescued the person, who had burns to their body. The victim was airlifted by Rescue 5 to the trauma center at University of South Alabama.

“We’re not sure of the cause; it’s under investigation,” Smith said. “It was a great job by fire and police in D’Iberville. They saved a life tonight.

“One thing I want to say is make sure your smoke detectors are working It could save your life.”

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
