Daughter of Shooting Victim Shares Story

Compassionate and always ready to lend a helping hand to those around her, that’s how Abigail Osteen remembers her mother, Amy Prentiss, just days after being shot to death by her boyfriend in her Gautier home.
News 25’s Katarina Luketich shows us that Prentiss left behind a legacy, a teenage daughter still full of dreams, faith, and forgiveness.
While dealing with the pain of losing someone so close to them in the most tragic way, Amy Prentiss’ family and friends stood strong together as her daughter, Abigail Osteen, honored the woman they’ll always love and never forget. “We treasure and will hold fast to the sights, sounds and smells of mamma and of Amy,” said Abigail.
Abigail also mentions the loss two other families are enduring as a result of Monday’s devastating events, offering prayers from her family to theirs. “We are sorry for their loss of future times with those who are tragically gone as we our sorry for our own loss. We wish for them the peace and comfort of Christ also.”
As she spoke of her mother, Abigail highlighted the wonderful qualities of a mother, daughter, sister, and granddaughter, pointing out Prentiss was a mother figure to many in her community in Jackson County as well. “We celebrate a lady with a big heart. She was mamma to many kids in her church and community. Amy’s hand was the hand of hope or Christian love to many homeless or from broken homes.”
Grateful for the outreach from the Gulf Coast community, Prentiss’ family encourages anyone wishing to help to consider making donations to causes that were close to Amy’s heart such as Adrienne’s House in Pascagoula or the Jackson County Animal Shelter.
“Thank all of you for your care, concern and interest in this life. Mamma, daughter, sister, Amy,” said Abigail, “She was a joy to know and love and always will be. May the Lord’s peace bounden all hearts.”
With heavy hearts and teary eyes, Prentiss’ family will begin their efforts to move forward.
Prentiss’ family did not address the investigation of how and why this tragedy happened, saying they’re leaving that to the authorities.
