Flooding concerns in Lake-A-Way area in Stone County

The Stone County Emergency Agency, along with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Agency, are still pumping water out of the lake near the Lake-A-Way RV park in order to reduce the risk of flooding in the area.

John Wills Road off of Highway 23 has been closed off to through traffic since this afternoon due to the risk of potential flooding in the area from the lake.

Stone County EMA has confirmed there is no break in the dam, however, they are removing as much water as possible from the lake to alleviate pressure on a weak spot in the dam.

Residents in the area are being asked to stay aware of any flood alerts or warnings.
