Cruisin’ the Coast Preview

‘The Biggest Block Party in the United States’ is coming to South Mississippi. Cruisin’ the Coast starts October 4th and lasts through the 11th. Visitors will come from all over to show off their sweet rides. News 25’s Shelby Graham spoke with businesses in the area to hear how they are preparing.
Enjoy easy driving while you can, in just a matter of days the Coast will be bumper to bumper with hot rods and vintage rides. Crowds of people from all over the country will be on the Coast for another year of Cruisin’ the Coast. “We are now making our final preparations to capture the additional reservations and get ready from a staffing standpoint and services and make sure it’s a great time,” said Kenny Glavan, general manager for the Four Seasons Sheraton.
Local businesses are hard at work prepping for the event. Organizers expect tourists from 41 different states, Canada and even Sweden to show off their rides and enjoy a good time. Hotels are already filled. Many began booking rooms a year in advance. “You know, it’s exciting because this is one of our signature events every year that we anticipate all year long and usually after the event concludes, we get about 50 percent of our booking within the first week,” said Glavan.
Last year the event saw over 7,000 cars register for Cruisin’ the Coast. This year, Biloxi Police Department is already working out a plan to make the event run smooth and safe. “Starting on Wednesday night, you will see a contingent of police officers on Highway 90. They will increase in size all the way to our largest contingence which will be Friday and Saturday night because that’s when we have our largest crowds,” said Major Jim Adamo, patrol commander for the Biloxi Police Department.
Officers say while Cruisin’ the Coast is a major event, packed with fun for everyone, for them safety is number one.
