Cruisin’ the Coast at the Armed Forces Retirement Home

For those at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, it’s not possible for many of the residents to go out to Cruisin’ the Coast events. With the help of a local car club, Cruisin’ the Coast was brought to the retirement home.
The annual event started back in 2015 and wasn’t going to be repeated after many cars didn’t show up, but the local Corvette Club and a few other car clubs along the Coast came together to bring the parade to the military veterans’ front porch. Juli Bocek with the Mississippi Gulf Coast Corvette Club said, “It’s all about giving back to them. Many of them grew up with these vehicles. I mean, it might have been their first cars so we want to bring back that memory to them.”
Armed Forces Retirement Home Resident Bill Allen said, “My first car was a 1937 Pontiac convertible and there is only one on the Coast.”
Those who brought their cars out tell News 25 this is just one way to say thank you to the veterans for their service.
