Cooler Weather Could End Red Tide

Cooler temperatures in and red tide out, at least, that’s what we’re hoping for.
According to the Department of Marine Resources, the cold front coming our way could mean the end of the algal bloom. Our unseasonably warm temperatures have provided perfect conditions for the algae to flourish. The harmful algae thrive in water temperatures between 60 and 85 degrees. If the cooler temps can keep the water around 50 degrees for three to four days, the red tide could dissipate. The DMR is continuing to test the waters.
