Contract for Gulfport Aquarium Consultant Approved

A giant step for the City of Gulfport was announced today, allowing the aquarium project to officially swim into construction phase.
Gulfport city officials approved a full-time aquarium consultant to be hired to start breaking ground on the Mississippi Aquarium to be built along Highway 90.
David Kimmel of Kimmel Management Services will be working with Gulfport’s redevelopment commission and city leaders to make the $80 million aquarium a reality.
The announcement was made at the City Council meeting today. “There is nothing like sitting in front of an exhibit, a habitat and looking at the animals. It’s very transforming. It’s very soothing. It’s just truly enjoyable. It’s just really fun for me. This is something that I have a passion for, that I like to do, and I’m able to combine my experience as a builder and my experience as an aquarium operator and bringing that experience to Gulfport. I’m really happy to be here,” said Kimmel.
Kimmel has 40 years of experience in construction management. He says officials plan to break ground on the aquarium in February.
