Community turns out to honor fallen deputy Lt. Michael Boutte
Tributes poured out from Coast residents this afternoon as they said their final goodbyes to Lt. Michael Boutte.
Hundreds of Harrison County residents lined Highway 90 to pay their final respects to fallen Lt. Michael Boutte. Gulfport resident Kenny Hindman said, “I wanted to honor him because he’s a veteran, and not only that, he was a policeman.”
Motorcycles and police cruisers from across the Coast and state led the way down Highway 90 and on to Veteran’s Avenue to bring Lt. Boutte to his final resting place at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
Onlookers say the procession was a fitting tribute to a man loved by so many. “Coming down here I thought it was the greatest thing I’ve ever seen, to honor a man that deserved to be honored.”
Others like Biloxi resident Ray Freeman are glad members of each Coast community united to display their respect. “From Bay St. Louis to Pascagoula, always sticks together, and they always cover each other’s backs, so this is really part of the way it is and life in Mississippi.”
Sticking together even during times of grief and sadness. “We always stick together. I feel really bad about this because it really hurts.”
