Commission of Marine Resources Monthly Meeting

The state Commission of Marine Resources met this morning for their monthly meeting in Biloxi.

On the agenda for the day were updates on the oyster and shark season, new state fishing records, and more. DMR Director Joe Spraggins also gave his report.

He mentioned he would be making a trip this week to Washington, D.C. to speak to the Senate Commerce Committee.

At this meeting they will address the issues commercial fishermen and other businesses are still facing due to the opening of the Bonnet Carre Spillway and what tactics they can use to help these fishermen stay on the Coast. “We are going to talk about what we can do to mitigate some of this loss. One of our biggest concerns is the loss of fishermen, that if we don’t help them somehow, someway, we are going to lose them because we just can’t keep continue working here.”

Spraggins says once he is back from D.C. he will update the department.
