College Student Interns at Jackson County Road Department

Recently Jackson County has been busy with road and infrastructure projects. One college student has taken the chance to gain valuable experience from an internship with the county’s road department.
Today was the last day on the job for Austin Keith, an engineering student that will be headed back to Ole Miss for classes at the end of the summer.
Today News 25 spoke with Keith about some of the projects he’s taken on while working with Jackson County and how this internship will affect his career path. “I plan on pursuing my masters in civil engineering and hopefully one day working with an emphasis in transportation building this same type of stuff. It’s good to get out and see it from the ground up, how it’s being built and everything. This one we’re working on now is Walker Road and Rose Farm Road. We’re just kind of widening the road a little bit.”
Jackson County Road Manager Joe O’Neil says this is the first time an engineering student has interned with the road department. He believes that Keith and the county have both benefitted from their time spent working together.
