Coast veterans take trip down to WWII Museum in New Orleans

For the first time since 2019, Riemann Family Funeral homes took military veterans on a trip to the World War II Museum in New Orleans.

Military veterans and their families from across the Coast took a ride down to the World War II Museum in New Orleans for a day of honor and for some, even remembrance. Riemann Family Funeral Homes Funeral Director Jason Green said, “We are of course a military community, and it’s very vital to us not only the veterans we serve, but having this museum so close to us and without their sacrifices, we wouldn’t be here today.”

The vets were able to tour the museum at their leisure and were able to experience what life was like for the soldiers who fought in the war and the similarities they hold with them through their military careers.

For Vietnam Veteran James Lizana, this trip was also an opportunity to enjoy a sense of camaraderie and bonding, sharing stories both happy and sad with fellow soldiers on the trip. “Well, you get to see old friends and talk about different things like where we were at and what happened. It just all fits together. For me it does.”

120 veterans were brought on this trip with two of them even fighting in World War II. Walter Monahan said, “I thought it was quite impressive. I really did. You gotta go through it to know it, you know? People want the good things to happen, and sometimes you have to make the good things happen by doing bad things.”

The team at Riemann Family says this trip is meant to remind veterans of all eras that their service and the sacrifices they made are appreciated today no matter how it may have seemed. Green Said, “Most of these men and women that served, depending on what time frame they served, they were not treated well when they come back from their service. This museum brings it all back to let them know, hey what you did was vital. The service you provided to our country was vital, and this museum helps restore that thanks.”
