Coast casinos can reopen next week
The Mississippi Gaming Commission says casinos in the state can start reopening Thursday, May 21st at 8 a.m.
That’s more than two months after the commission closed them because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The reopening is allowed just before Memorial Day Weekend, which usually marks the beginning of the summer tourist season.
The Gaming Commission Executive Director Allen Godfrey told news outlets the commission will issue an order with safety guidelines for reopening.
For example, places like the Palace Casino Resort in Biloxi will actually close the floor from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. every day to clean and disinfect surfaces, including UV disinfection of gaming chips.
The commission closed Mississippi casinos on March 16th.
