Civility Week Kicks off at USM Gulf Park

Today, USM’s Gulf Park campus kicked off Civility Week, a week focused on creating a caring and civil community for all. Civility Week promotes the university’s demonstration of respect for others and the true Golden Eagle values of its students, faculty and staff.
The week kicked off today with the third annual Smile for Equality Social for LGBTQ students and their allies. Other events throughout the week will highlight the Festival of Colors, a celebration that takes place in many countries throughout the world. They include a dinner marking the beginning of spring on March 30th and a t-shirt decorating celebration on March 31st.
Coordinator of Student Life and Career Services Jona Burton said, “We know that in order to create a stimulating environment for our students where they can be successful in their learning here and successful after graduation. Their voice has to be valued and so part of making sure that we value students is making sure that we are providing that civility, again that consideration, that respect in all of our interactions and everything that we do in and outside of the classroom.”
Alliance for Equality also presented the Golden Pride Scholarship Award today which recognizes students who foster promoting respect, inclusivity, diversity and equality within the community. This award went to Rebecca Bickett.
