Chevron Projects Concern Pascagoula Residents

Future plans for the Chevron Refinery in Pascagoula put residents in the area on high alert.
A group of residents who identify themselves as the Cherokee Concerned Citizens attended tonight’s MDEQ public hearing to speak out against two proposed projects.
Citizens say the “ISO Two Reactor Replacement Project” and the “Pascagoula Base Oil Project” would contribute to what they describe as an already toxic environment. Community Organizer for the Steps Coalition Howard Page said, “There’s large, large industrial facilities here. There’s constant expansions of the industrial facilities and Cherokee Concerned Citizens feel like there’s not enough oversight of the pollution.”
Comments made during the public hearing were transcribed and added to the permit board file. The MDEQ board plans to consider all issues and concerns regarding environmental protection before making a decision.
