Celebrating Older American’s Month

Today, the Jackson County Civic Action Committee celebrated the Senior Citizen community at the Moss Point Riverfront.

The event was held in conjunction with Older Americans Month which highlights the many ways in which older adults make a difference in our communities. This year’s theme is ‘engage in every age’ and emphasizes the importance of being active and involved no matter where you are in life.

Today, anyone over 55-years-old was able to enjoy a senior citizen field day with activities, food, music, and more. Moss Point Senior Center Manager Lydia Clay said, “The seniors love it. It’s basically an event we decided to do during Older Americans Month which is May. For them to just have a day full of fun, to enjoy the day with people that they are kind of familiar with, the different home, health, and hospice companies, the hospital. Just people that would come in and out of the center to do activities with them.”

Clay says they’ve been hosting this event since 2011, but it is the first year it’s been held at the Moss Point Riverfront.
