Goodwill offers shoppers affordable options for Halloween

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV)- With Halloween just days away, the search for the perfect costume is on.

Some shoppers are turning to second-hand stores to celebrate the holiday without spending a fortune.

Whether you’re dressing up as a superhero or putting together something spooktacular, Goodwill Industries of South Mississippi is helping Halloween shoppers get creative without breaking the bank.

As the final countdown to Halloween continues, local shoppers are searching through racks of second-hand costumes and seasonal decorations to find affordable options for their holiday festivities without the scary price tag. Goodwill Marketing Manager Katie Myers said, “We’ve had hundreds of people come in this week doing last minute shopping. Since Halloween’s on Saturday this year, the whole week has been super busy. It feels great being able to provide that service to our community. So, shopping with us is full circle. It helps our workforce development programs and your money does go back directly to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”

The National Retail Federation projects Halloween spending will reach a record $13.5 billion nationwide this year with costumes accounting for billions of that total as consumers balance holiday traditions with their household budgets. Customer Christian Stelly said, “I got to Goodwill as soon as they opened to find an affordable costume for my daughter for Halloween because we don’t have a lot of money for the Halloween season. So, Goodwill is always a good option for me to find something cheap.”

With Halloween just around the corner, Goodwill still has costumes available for last minute shoppers looking to save money and avoid a frightening hit to their wallets.
