Celebrating good grades for Pass Christian School District

The Pass Christian School District has a lot to smile about because they received a great report card from the state.

In the Pass Christian School District, more than just students are celebrating their good grades. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carla Evers said “Today is all about celebrating our students’ hard work.”

PCSD is one of only 18 school districts in Mississippi to have received an ‘A’ rating from the state education board. “Pass Christian School District has a long legacy of high performance. Our students, our teachers, and our community are committed to ensuring that we hold our legacy,” said Dr. Evers.

The school district threw a party for everyone to celebrate their accomplishments and State Superintendent Dr. Carey Wright showed up to celebrate.“I think any time you can celebrate hard work and earning an ‘A’ is hard work, I think that has been the special part of it. No matter where I have been in the state, the excitement from the children really warms your heart.”

To receive the Award of Excellence, school districts have to score a high number on the accountability model. “We are really looking at it to make sure the children are benefiting because we want to make sure the children are graduating on time and make sure they are becoming proficient readers or advanced readers. That is something you get even more credit inside of the system once children reach proficiency or even more so with advanced,” said Dr. Wright.

For students in the district receiving an ‘A’ rating gives them confidence in their future.  Fifth grader Ande Montifort said, “I think it’s really cool because I know that one day I’m going to another ‘A’ school then go on to have a really good career.”
