Carl Legget Fishing Tournament
For the 23rd year in a row, fishermen from across the Gulf are gathering for the Carl Legget Fishing Tournament in Biloxi.
News 25’s Tanner Stewart joins us from the Point Cadet Marina at the captain’s party.
The Captain’s party happens every year before the tournament begins. You can register for the tournament at the party if you haven’t already done so.
There will be hundreds of fishermen from all around at the captain’s party as the actual tournament is set to begin at midnight tonight. Weigh-in times are tomorrow and Saturday from 4 to 8 and Sunday from 2 to 5 at the Point Cadet Plaza.
There is also a junior angler’s tournament on Saturday. News 25 had the chance to speak with Carl Legget’s sister, Mary Ann Mach, and she expressed how important and fun it is to get the youth involved in this tournament. “There will be people from the marine resources there and they will talk to them about fish and how you catch them. Sometimes you catch them and sometimes you don’t, but that’s what you do when you fish.”
The tournament started in 1995 as a picnic for the Home Builders Association and has since turned into a huge fishing tournament which helps support scholarships and philanthropies like the Boys and Girls Club.
