22-year-old Cameron Brand will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being sentenced to two-consecutive life terms for killing two Hancock County teenagers at an after-prom party back in April 2023.
BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. — A Pass Christian man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for a 2023 mass shooting at an after-prom party in Bay St. Louis that killed two Hancock High School students and injured four others.
22-year-old Cameron Brand was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences plus an additional 40 years on two counts of first-degree murder and four counts of aggravated assault.
Brand pleaded guilty to these charges back in March.
Haeleigh Stamper, 16, and De’Arreis “DD” Smith, 17, were killed and four others were injured in the April 30, 2023 shooting at a home off Blue Meadow Road in Bay St. Louis.
Prosecutors said Brand fired approximately 17 rounds into the gathering of young people.
During Thursday’s sentencing hearing, family members and survivors delivered victim-impact statements describing the lasting effects of the shooting.
Stamper’s mother spoke about the milestones and future her daughter will never have, while Smith’s grandmother described the permanent loss his death has left on their family.
Survivors also addressed the court about the physical injuries and emotional trauma they continue to endure.
