Breaking Barriers on Ice at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum

Ice skating is a popular activity at the Coast Coliseum during the winter months and tonight it was all about breaking barriers on the ice.

The Coliseum partnered with Century 21 J. Carter and Company to host those with special needs for a night of ice skating with their friends.

People of all ages did their best maneuvers on the ice and volunteers guided everyone while on the rink.

Breaking Barriers on the Ice is a new event on the ice-skating schedule and those who witnessed the fun says it brought smiles to their faces. Dream Program Executive Director Billy Dungan said, “They’ve got so much confidence in what can be done on the ice, that I didn’t have, but it has been a great thing, everybody pulling together to help.”

Coast Coliseum Special Events Coordinator Jamie Nash said, “To know all these participants are getting the experience of a lifetime, just makes me really happy.”

Coliseum officials say they plan to expand the Breaking Barriers on Ice event for 2022.
