Blue Crew and CDC basketball game

Gulfport Police Department’s effort to build stronger relationships within the community continues tonight for the third Blue Crew basketball game.
This time each officer is teamed up with a student from Climb CDC in more of a mentor fashion. Gulfport police have spent the past five weeks speaking with the students about career choices and making a positive change in their lives.
Officers say the time spent with the students has made a huge impact on the kids. Sergeant Josh Bromen said, “They haven’t had a lot of structure in their lives. This is an opportunity for them to get that positive reinforcement from an authority figure, adult men, as well as law enforcement officers. These are people that they’ve always been taught to question or they’ve been taught ‘hey they’re against you’ and now they have the opportunity to realize that we’re here to help whether it be on or off the court and just build those relationships.”
The game is free and open to the public. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at the Gulfport High School gymnasium.
