Blood Drive in honor of Ansley Gilich

Tomorrow the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive in honor of Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich’s granddaughter Ansley who was diagnosed with B-Cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia last March.

The blood drive, which was rescheduled after Hurricane Zeta caused the one in October to be canceled, will run from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Slavonian Lodge in Biloxi.

This will be the second blood drive in Ansley’s honor. The Gilich family and the Red Cross held a drive back in July where the community donated over 150 units of blood. Ansley’s mother, Michelle Gilich, said, “We’re just trying to take a really horrible thing that’s happened to our family and create some good out of it. So, although none of the blood goes directly to Ansley, it’s helping save other people who might be in the same situation as her or other horrible situations where they need blood. And so, since we had such a great turn out we decided to keep going with it.”

To sign up for a time slot to give blood, go to redcrossblood.org and use the sponsor code ‘Ansley Gilich.’ Limited walk-up appointments will be accepted after 2:30 as well.
