Birdies for Charity
It was time for the Rapiscan Systems Classic to give back to nonprofit organizations across South Mississippi with the Birdies for Charity Program held at the Salvation Army Kroc Center.
Over 20 charities had the opportunity to generate contributions based on the number of birdies made by PGA Tour Champions players. The donations ranged from a thousand dollars to six figures.
The Salvation Army received the most money with a total of $166,641. The Salvation Army plans to put that money towards scholarships for students within the area.
The Rapiscan Systems Classic has put on the Birdies for Charity program for nine years now and it continues to grow. Rapiscan Systems Classic Tournament Director Stephen Schoettmer said, “It’s the coolest part of my job. Yes, we are out there on the golf course and get to put on a world class event here on the Coast, but this is the behind the scenes. The impact we make on the community here and especially on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, you can’t put it into words.”
Altogether, the Birdies for Charity program raised over $460,000 to give back to the nonprofit organizations.
