Huntington Learning Center Teacher of the Month: Vancleave Upper Elementary’s Teri Murray

VANCLEAVE, Miss. (WXXV)- Every month, WXXV and Huntington Learning Center recognize a local educator who is making an impact in the classroom.

WXXV News 25’s Asia Ellis takes us to Jackson County to reveal the October Teacher of the Month: Vancleave’s Upper Elementary School’s Teri Murray!

Behind every bright mind is a hardworking teacher helping students reach their full potential.

This month’s Huntington Learning Center Teacher of the Month award goes to Mrs. Teri Murray, a fourth-and-fifth grade special education teacher, who was caught off guard by the big reveal. “I’m surprised, I feel thankful. In my position as a special education teacher, it’s hard to get recognized. This is just amazing and I’m appreciative.”

Mrs. Murray earned her degree from William Carey University and has spent the last 17 years dedicated to teaching. Her impact is felt not only in the classroom, but also by the families who see firsthand the care she puts into her work. Parent Christina Mizelle said, “So, Mrs. Murray goes above and beyond for her students. She teaches life skill class, which is kids with cognitive disabilities, or learning disabilities. She’s been my child’s teacher for three years now and she makes sure they’re all seen and included in everything the school does.”

That kind of dedication is just one example of what teachers pour into their students each day and what that support can mean for a child’s future. “The amount of growth that I see from the very beginning when the challenges are so tough and by the time that I let them fly to middle school, they have grown tremendously and that is why I do what I do.”
