A Biloxi man will serve an additional 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

29-year-old Christopher Bridges Gholar pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Donald Beryle Ratcliff.

Gholar admitted to assaulting Ratcliff, 47, while both were in the Jackson County jail on April 26, 2021. Ratcliff, who was from Ocean Springs, died several days after the incident of blunt force head trauma. MBI investigated the case.

Gholar already was serving a 13-year sentence for aggravated assault committed in Harrison County. The 20-year sentence imposed on Thursday will run consecutive to his current sentence.

“This was a senseless act of violence, and our office remains committed to seeking justice for all crime victims, regardless of their status,” said District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath. “I hope that Judge Taylor’s imposition of the maximum sentence provides some sense of justice to Mr. Ratcliff’s family.”
