Biloxi Fire Department Receives Grant

Today, the city of Biloxi approved a $70,000 grant from Homeland Security.
The grant will go towards the Biloxi Fire Department to better develop their current hazardous materials response team. It will allow the fire department to buy new equipment and update old equipment to more efficiently respond to hazardous materials incidents.
Just last week, the Biloxi Fire Department hazmat team responded to a chlorine leak in Woolmarket. Fire Chief Joe Boney said, “We had one in the county just last week that we to respond to and we have a very, very good hazardous materials response team and they do a great job and we just want to keep that in place.”
Chief Boney also says the grant will save taxpayers money and also help the fire department better protect their citizens.
