Biloxi Fire Department awards ceremony
In honor of their hard work, dedication and putting their lives on the line, the Biloxi Fire Department held their second annual awards ceremony this evening.
Awards stemming from training to recognition and appreciation plus more were given out tonight to members of the Biloxi fire and police department, AMR, flight rescue, surrounding fire departments and members of the community.
The highlight of tonight’s ceremony is the Phil McCabe Award otherwise known as the chief’s award. Receiving this year’s Chief’s Award is Darren Endris who has been with the department more than 20 years.
Chief Joe Boney tells News 25 how important it is to honor these men and women who put their lives on the line. “It’s hard to describe to a person what these guys go through mentally and physically, day in and day out. They literally work hard, every day. And they put their lives on the line a lot of times. And it’s good to see the community, we really enjoy our relationship with the community and it’s important for these guys, because I get the calls every day telling me how great they are. But, these guys, it’s just a moment for them to understand that they are appreciated.”
Chief Boney says nearly 70 awards were given out this evening to firefighters within the department and to those in the community.
