Bethel Free Health Clinic relocates due to storm damage

BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- For many Coast residents who rely on free medical care, help is on the way. After Tropical Storm Arthur damaged Bethel Free Health Clinic, community partners are working to keep services available.

After Tropical Storm Arthur left its original building with significant flood damage, Bethel Free Health Clinic is temporarily relocating its services to Beauvoir United Methodist Church. Bethel Clinic Operations Manager Verba Moore said, “When I walked into the facility on Monday, I saw trash cans turned over, and initially I thought someone had gotten into the building. Then, I realized it was water damage that had floated the trash cans. I found mud down the hallways; there was still some puddles of water in there. The bathrooms had been mudded and the carpet was soaking wet. We see the uninsured, which is a number of people in our population here. We see the homeless as well, and some of those patients have been coming to us for years. We’re their primary care provides. It’s important that we continue to take care of them. ”

Memorial Hospital donated its mobile medical unit to help keep patient care going as Bethel prepares to operate the clinic from the church. Patients can receive primary care, health evaluations, treatment, and medication assistance beginning July 7. Memorial Hospital Foundation President Aimee Robertson said, “The Memorial Hospital Foundation is proud to say we were able to help our neighbors in need almost 14,000 times in 2025 alone. We are very grateful to those that donate to help us with that mission and we’re also grateful for our community partners like Bethel. We hope to be able to partner with them always in the future.”

With repairs underway, Bethel is counting on community support, from donations to paper towels and Clorox wipes, helping them focus their resources on medical equipment and patient care.
