Bay St. Louis police chief resigns
Nearly two months after officially accepting the chief of police position, Bay St. Louis Chief Darren Freeman is resigning.
Mayor Mike Favre tells News 25 he regretfully accepts Chief Freeman’s resignation today. Favre says Freeman’s resignation has nothing to do with the former chief Mike De Nardo’s suicide or the investigations within the police department. However, a source tells News 25 the resignation comes amidst allegations Freeman allegedly choked a man in handcuffs.
Favre says Freeman will stay on and assist a new interim to oversee day to day police operations while the process of recruiting and hiring a replacement for filling the chief position is underway.
Freeman was unavailable for comment today.
