Attorney General Lynn Fitch launches 2027 Mississippi Governor campaign on coast stop
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) – Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch is officially entering the race for governor, becoming the latest high-profile Republican to announce a campaign for the state’s top office in 2027.
Fitch made a stop on the Mississippi Gulf Coast as part of a statewide tour announcing her bid for governor, drawing support from local GOP leaders, friends, and supporters who gathered for the event.
The Republican has served as Mississippi’s attorney general since 2020 and made history as the first woman elected to the position. Prior to becoming attorney general, Fitch served two terms as Mississippi State Treasurer.
During her announcement, Fitch highlighted her record on public safety, efforts to combat human trafficking and illegal drugs, and her work building partnerships across the state. She also spoke about what she sees as Mississippi’s momentum and opportunities for future growth.
Candidates who have already announced their campaigns include Mississippi Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson and former House Speaker Philip Gunn.
Political observers expect additional well-known Republican figures to enter the race in the coming months, setting the stage for what could become a competitive GOP primary ahead of the 2027 election.
