Tonight his friends, family and former players reunited in his memory.
Gerald Austin was the former assistant coach under Jenkins and tells News 25 tonight’s turnout is a reflection of the impact Coach Jenkins had on the community and the man he was on and off the court. “Coach Jenkins was just a great man. He was a great man. He had the respect of his players and other coaches. I can’t tell you how many young coaches he helped. He was always ready and willing to share his ideas. There were no secrets.”
During his 28 years as head coach, Jenkins won 866 games and led his team to seven state championships.
