Pearl River County woman missing for 40 years found alive in Texas

A Pearl River County woman believed to be missing for 40 years was found alive in a Texas nursing home.

After decades of no contact and years of searching, the family reported Janis Rose Bullock missing in 2017. There is no indication her personal information has been used in decades.

In December 2021, investigators tracked her to Louisiana in the late 70s.

In January, Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers asked the public’s help to locate Bullock.

Someone contacted investigators about Bullocks’ dead husband which led to a possible son living in Texas.

During a meeting with the man on February 12th, investigators looked through family photos and possessions, leading them to believe they had located Bullock who had been living under a different name since 1980.

Major Ogden and investigators confirmed the next day that Janis Bullock was the woman.

Ogden tells News 25 no matter how many years have gone by, the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department will look for answers. “Any report we get in, we owe it to the victim. That’s what we get paid to do. We work every case, especially missing persons, like it’s our own family. They deserve to know. If we can provide the answers we will. Unfortunately, we’re not able to solve them all, but we damn sure try.”

Major Ogden says Bullock’s daughter has been in contact with her mother since she was located.
