Postponed MLK Day events being held this week

Martin Luther King Jr. Celebrations are back in person this year.

The Coastwide Dr. Martin Luther King Association is honoring his legacy this weekend with multiple events.

Normally these events take place on Dr. King’s birthday, but were pushed back because of a spike in the omicron variant.

The highly anticipated Battle of the Bands will be back Sunday at MGM Park.

This year, they’ll be featuring performances from Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State University. Coastwide MLK Celebration Chairman Jakavious Pickett said, “The parade and the battle of the bands are the stamps on the entire weekend. Other things are very, very important, but this allows us to bring everybody together for one common cause, but this is just one big celebration to celebrate his legacy.”

On Sunday at 11, there will be the MLK Parade in East Biloxi. It runs from the Salvation Army Kroc Center to MGM Park. Following the parade will be the Battle of the Bands.
