Drug Money to Buy New Patrol Cars for Biloxi Police Department
The Biloxi Police Department is ordering 16 new patrol cars and drug dealers will pay for half.
Today, Mayor FoFo Gilich and Police Chief John Miller asked the City Council for approval to spend nearly $440,000 for 14 new Ford SUV’s and two other cars to replace aging vehicles in the department’s fleet. More than 200,000 of those dollars will come from a federal program that refunds seized drug money to local police departments. “Well, you’re not taking anything from taxpayers. This is money that was seized by the federal government from large drug dealers and I’m glad we can get them this way. That we can use federal equitable sharing money to pay for them. That’s a plus for everybody,” said Chief Miller.
One of the vehicles will arrive equipped with an eco-boost engine that will make it more useful catching speeders on the interstate.
