25 Teams in 25 Days: Biloxi Indians
Last season, the Biloxi Indians finished with an overall record of three wins and eight losses, squeaking into the playoffs with two district wins. As they look to flip the script, they’ve also changed the leadership, as former defensive coordinator Eric Collier takes over as head coach.
“They’re hungry. They’re ready to do whatever it takes to win, and our coaches have done that and our kids have done that, and the results will show. If you’re talking about excitement, they’ve been bought in. Since February, they’ve done everything that I’ve asked them to do, and to be honest with you, I’ve challenged them daily. They’ve been challenged and they’ve responded. I’m looking forward to them having success,” said Head Coach Eric Collier.
As the Indians look to turn things around, they’ll lean on both their returning veterans and some new additions. Biloxi returns six starters on defense and five on offense.
“I think defensively we’ve got the chance to be pretty good. The kids are working their butts off, they’ve bought into what we’re trying to do, and the mentality is totally different. Offensively, we’re going to be consistent. The running back can play, the quarterback is a really good player and probably as good of a quarterback as I’ve ever had. The receivers are difference-makers, and the offensive line is growing every day, so I feel good about it. What really surprises me is our kickers. I’ve got a lot of confidence in those two kids, so it looks good,” said Coach Collier.
“I’m excited for my offensive line, got to shout out my O-line guys first. I think we’ve got playmakers at receivers and running backs with Ian Harlan, Davie Griffin, Ahvin Magee, Sean Jackson, Marquez Metcalfe, Mason Fields… we’ve just got a lot of playmakers this year, and I think they’re going to do something great,” said Jordan Ramsey.
“We have a really good defensive line. We’re physical and get to the ball, along with the linebackers, offensive line, receivers… I just feel like we have a good team in general,” said Jayden Ramsey.
“Obviously, Jordan Ramsey. He’s a great athlete and great quarterback. Our offensive line is really good, and we have playmakers at receiver with Ian Harlan, Davie Griffin and Ahvin Magee, and our running back core with Marquez Metcalfe, who’s a really good athlete, so those are our strengths. Our defensive line is great. I go against them every day, so I would know. Cameron Clark is a very great defensive lineman, as well as our two ends, Chan and Cooney, and we have some great athletes at linebacker as well,” said Jefferson Cabrera.
An area where the Indians will be especially strong is at quarterback. Six-foot-one, 195-pound Jordan Ramsey will command the Indian offense for a second straight year. Last season, he threw for about 1,400 yards while rushing for nearly 400 more. But more impressive than his dual-threat ability is the leadership he brings to the team.
“I think we’re looking pretty good. That’s something I really worked on this season, being better at being a leader and leading the younger guys my last year and setting a good example for them in the future,” said Ramsey.
“When you look at Jordan, yeah, he’s a great athlete. He does everything you need him to do. He can run with the ball and throw the fire out of the ball, but I’ll be honest, his best attribute is off the field. When he speaks, our guys listen and our coaches listen, so yes, he’s phenomenal and has done a phenomenal job. Coach Murphy has spent a lot of time with him, and that young man has come a long way. The best thing about Jordan Ramsey is what he does for our team, what he does in our locker room and what he does in our meetings,” said Coach Collier.
Ramsey and the Indians have shown significant growth, detailing the ways they’ve improved while also building on their current strengths.
“We’re tougher as a team, have better attitudes, and not as weak-minded as last year,” said Ramsey.
“Really, our mentality. We have been a lot better mentally, and our communication is better,” said Cabrera.
“I just feel like we’re hard workers. We’ve been doing this since January, every day just going at it. We give a lot of effort, run to the ball, and that’s all I can ask from my guys,” said Ramsey.
“How strong we are,” said Cameron Clark. “I feel like myself and the defensive line have hit the weight room heavy, so we’re just really strong. We take more pride in being more physical and just attacking things with meaning.”
Now, the next item on their agenda is taking on their first opponent. Biloxi will welcome Holmes County Central this Friday, August 28th, to kick off the 2026 season.
