Heat sticks around with better rain chances returning

Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at the week ahead

Tonight will be mostly clear with lows settling into the upper 70s and winds becoming calm, making for another warm and muggy night.

Thursday brings another isolated chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the late morning and early afternoon. Most communities will see a mix of sunshine and clouds with highs in the low to mid 90s. Any storms that develop will be brief but could produce heavy downpours and lightning.

Friday and Saturday look very similar, with mostly sunny skies and only isolated chances of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. High temperatures will climb to the low and mid 90s, while overnight lows remain in the mid to upper 70s.

Rain chances tick up slightly on Sunday, with a few showers and thunderstorms possible before early afternoon. Even so, much of the day will remain dry with highs near 90 degrees.

Looking ahead to next week, scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms become a little more scattered on Monday before returning to more isolated coverage on Tuesday and Wednesday. High temperatures will continue to top out around 90, or in the low 90s, each afternoon.
