Illinois man charged with making threats against witness connected to Nolan Wells investigation

An Illinois man is accused of making violent threats against witnesses in the ongoing Nolan Wells death investigation.

According to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court and our media partner, the Sun Herald, 40-year-old Edward James Porter is charged with transmitting threatening communications in interstate commerce.

Investigators say Porter repeatedly called two witnesses on July 31, threatening to kill them, their families, and any responding police officers.

The complaint also alleges he texted one witness with their home address and later called one witness again, claiming he was outside their home and was going to kill them.

Porter is the third person to face federal charges related to threats against people connected to the investigation.
