Wiggins restaurant gives free meals to flood victims

STONE COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- One restaurant in Wiggins is stepping up to assist those recovering from the torrential rain and flooding that has slammed Stone County.

The Frosty Mug is serving hot meals to residents displaced by the storm along with first responders, linemen, and community workers.

The recent flooding has left homes damaged and roads under water with some families forced to leave everything behind.

The owners say they wanted to step in and give people a sense of relief during a tough time, offering a hot meal and a place to connect with others going through the same thing.  Frosty Mug GM Shannon Holliman said, “We have been doing donations of a brown bag special. It is two mini sliders with fries and a drink for the flood victims and first responders. All they have to do is come up and say they’re first responders or a flood victim and we give them the food for free to help them out.”

Frosty Mug Owner Chris Gollott said, “Really trying to fill the void of something that they can’t provide. Trying to help alleviate the helplessness and give them a sense of community, a chance to get away and forget about what happened, just so they can kind of enjoy a hot meal and really bond with people here that are going through the same situation.”

The Frosty Mug says those who have received the hot meals have been very appreciative.

As long as donations keep coming in, they hope to keep providing these meals at least through the end of the week.
