Two men denied bond in deputy involved shooting in Covington County

COVINGTON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The two men accused of shooting and seriously injuring a Covington County sheriff’s deputy have been denied bond.
Cortavious and Cortavion Hobbs appeared in court Wednesday to face charges of attempted capital murder and hindering prosecution. The brothers will be appointed a public defender.
The shooting happened Monday during an attempted traffic stop in Mount Olive. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation says when deputies attempted to pull the Hobbs vehicle over, the driver came to a stop, then fled when a deputy approached the car. The vehicle wrecked nearby and when deputies approached it again, the suspects allegedly shot at the deputies, critically injuring one of them. The MBI says both deputies then fired back at the suspects.
After an hours-long manhunt, the Hobbs brothers were found under a house and taken into custody in the early morning hours Tuesday.
The deputy who was shot was identified as Yates Rodney. He remains hospitalized.
Cortavion Hobbs was charged with two counts of attempted capital murder, hindering prosecution, and felony fleeing. Cortavious Hobbs is charged with two counts of attempted capital murder and hindering prosecution.
The MBI is currently the investigating agency in this case.
