Sewer lift station upgrades complete in Waveland

WAVELAND, Miss. (WXXV)- The City of Waveland completed a roughly $3.5 million project to upgrade ten of its largest sewer lift stations.

That work includes ten new pumps and other equipment now operating throughout the city.

Mayor Jay Tripani says crews replaced or refurbished pumps, valves, and other equipment at the lift stations.

The station moves wastewater from lower areas into higher sections of the sewer system and are particularly important because of Waveland’s flat terrain.

Trapani says undersized pump motors had caused sewage backups in some residents’ homes before the upgrade. “We used that money to redo the gravity sewer system in parts of the city and to refurbish the 10 biggest lift stations that we have throughout the city.”

The lift station work was part of a broader investment in Waveland’s wastewater system using state and federal grant funding.

Trapani says the upgraded pumps are now operational and the frequent sewage backups have stopped.
