District Attorney, Senate Candidate Scott Colom discusses FEMA concerns ahead of hurricane season

As we near hurricane season, District Attorney Scott Colom stood at the Hurricane Katrina Memorial to warn Mississippians about what he called a broken federal disaster response system.

Colom, who is running for U.S. Senate, criticized Senator Cindy Hyde Smith over her support of FEMA leadership changes, claiming the agency has been weakened ahead of storm season.

Colom also pointed to recent severe weather in southwest Mississippi, where seven tornados damaged more than 400 homes and 26 people across five counties.

Voters in Mississippi will elect one member to the U.S. Senate in the general election later this year on November 3.
