Hancock County residents approve $49M school bond

Hancock School District

HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)-The votes to renew a $49 million bond to pay for upgrades across multiple Hancock County school campuses have been released.

Hancock County residents voted to approve the school bond issue. 1,347 ballots were cast and of that 167 were against the bond issue.

District leaders say many buildings need critical repairs, including leaking roofs and failing air conditioning systems, problems they say are affecting student learning.

At Hancock High, the bond would fund a new band hall, safer traffic flow, and a new parking lot.

Elementary schools would see expanded classrooms, safer entry ways, and updated learning spaces, along with new fine arts facilities.

With the bond being approved construction could begin as early as this summer.
