Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, D’Iberville’s Annah Niceley!
It was a beautiful day on the softball diamond to get to know yet another WXXV Student Athlete of the Week. She represents the Lady Warriors on three different teams and she’s a big reason their softball team is on a hot streak. Get to know d’Iberville softball’s stone wall and power hitter, Annah Niceley!
The d’Iberville Lady Warriors are on fire this year, practically flipping the script from a losing season last year, to being a district championship contender this season. Senior Annah Niceley credits their success to the bats and their team chemistry. Speaking of bats, the catcher has one herself! On Tuesday night, Niceley set the tone for the Lady Warriors quickly as she hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning. The senior leader would go on to be 2-2 adding a single after her three-run bomb. Niceley has been producing those numbers all year long, currently sitting at a .473 batting average, three homers and 22 RBIs. Putting her bat aside, she’s a stone wall and a tone setter with a .981 fielding percentage behind the plate. Niceley describes the qualities that she believes makes a good catcher. those qualities on the field turn into a lifestyle off of the field. Playing softball since she was three years old, the senior reflects on what the sport has taught her so far.
If that’s what softball has taught her, imagine all she’s learned being a tri-sport athlete. Along with being dedicated to softball, Niceley also proudly represents the warriors on both the volleyball and golf team. As she finishes her final sport season at d’Iberville high school, Niceley is trying her best to savor every single game. Best of luck to the Lady Warriors on the rest of their season, and we look forward to cheering Annah on the diamond next year at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College!
