Jackson County leaders discuss new resiliency plan with residents

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV) — Jackson County leaders rolled out a new resiliency plan during a public meeting.

The resiliency plan is being put in place to identify the risks and vulnerabilities that Jackson County faces living along the Gulf Coast, ultimately helping the county address and minimize those risks.

Jackson County has been working on this plan for around a year. It is designed to improve the county’s shorelines and waterways and serve as a guide for future strategic growth.

The plan contains actions the county can take to improve certain problem areas. For example, one action is to mitigate current and future shoreline erosion and another is increasing insurance affordability and availability. These are followed by sub-actions or an implementation plan for each point including the estimated cost, timeframe for the project, and funding sources.

Another point in the resiliency plan is to strengthen access to resources before, during and after extreme events like hurricanes, flooding, or tornadoes.

Jackson county does want to hear thoughts from residents on the resiliency plan. For those who would like to reach out and provide comment, email jacksoncountyresiliency@neel-schaffer.com.
