New camp in Harrison County gives students look inside the legal world

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- Applications are now open for a new law camp aimed at giving high school students a firsthand look inside the legal world.

A Harrison County judge is launching the program this summer. It’s designed to spark interest in careers in law.

Judge Alison Baker is starting a new law camp in Harrison County called the Gargiulo Law Camp, named in honor of Judge John Gargiulo, who passed away in 2021.

The four-day camp will run from June 15 through the 18 at the Harrison County Courthouse in Gulfport from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day.

During the camp, students won’t just sit and listen, they’ll observe real court proceedings, take part in negotiations and debates, and get the chance to meet attorneys and judges from across the county.

Organizers say the goal is to give students a realistic picture of what a legal career looks like and answer questions they may have about working in the justice system.
