Biloxi PD, Fire share Halloween safety tips

BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV) — With Halloween right around the corner, kids all along the Coast are excited to hit the streets for trick-or-treating, but before the fun begins, it’s important to keep safety in mind.

Costumes, candy, and creepy decorations are about to take over neighborhoods as kids hit the streets for trick-or-treating fun! Before the candy rush begins, the Biloxi Police Department is offering some advice to make sure everyone has a safe and worry-free Halloween.

The most important tip is to stay visible. Kids who are wearing dark-colored costumes should wear glowsticks, carry flash lights, or use reflective take so that drivers on the road see them easily, and parents can locate them without hassle.

And as cooler weather rolls in for Halloween night, bonfires could be a nice way to stay warm. But before you gather around the flames, the Biloxi Fire Department wants to make sure your fun doesn’t go up in smoke.

Chief Nicholaus Geiser says if you light a fire, make sure it is put out at the end of the night. You should also be mindful of costumes around open flames. A lot of costumes are very flammable, so if you are going to be near a fire, take off loose pieces, or keep a good distance from the flame.

Acadian Ambulance also shared a list of Halloween safety tips to keep in mind. Stay visible, stay alert, watch for traffic, drive cautiously, keep costumes safe, supervise children, and check candy before eating it.

The Biloxi Police Department will also have extra officers out and about patrolling neighborhoods to make sure nothing goes bump in the night.
