Former Gulfport Softball trio gives back by hosting a Summer Skills Camp

The Gulfport softball field was packed with young talent as the class of 2023 trio gives back to the community that built them. After playing softball for two years in junior college, Brooklynn Montana, Anna Kate Rounsaville, and Caroline Lindsey hosted their inaugural back to the basics softball camp for kids ages six to 12.

The former Admirals taught the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, catching, and pitching, but most importantly the former standouts hope they learned how to love the game.

“Gulfport softball has really made me who I am today,” said Montana. “I remember coming to these camps as a little kid and I just want to give back to this program in general because I was here for six years. It’s really made me who I am and I want to give back to the people that have impacted me and I really want to make an impact on the kids and really help them love the sport and realize why they’re doing it.”

“We wanted to do this to give back to them and we want them to fall in love like we fell in love,” Rounsaville said. “This community raised us and raised us into the way we play softball. It developed the character we have and we hope they follow in our footsteps.”

“Doing this at Gulfport high makes it ten times better. This place made us women, not just softball players, but the people we are today, so a huge shout out to Coach Basso for letting us come out and do this,” Lindsey said. “We hope these little girls learn as much as we learned throughout our softball careers. It’s truly amazing and I’m thankful we can give back to the community.”

We look forward to seeing all these campers on a diamond near us soon!
