Preparing For Severe Weather
While South Mississippi may have missed the brunt of the severe weather, officials are stressing how important it is to always be prepared.
This morning in Harrison County winds picked up in the 30 mile per hour range. We also had rain fall but not enough to cause flooding. The only reported damage was a tree branch that got tangled up with a power line on Second Street in Gulfport. It temporarily blocked the west lane of traffic, but firefighters cleared the area.
Even though it seems we got lucky avoiding severe weather, this is a reminder to always be prepared. Harrison County EMA Director Rupert Lacy said, “We have seen tornadic activity during the months of November and December and January so we’re in that second tornado season. As a possible Christmas present if you don’t have a weather radio, maybe it’s a gift you need to buy for somebody.”
