Homeschool families gather for fun and friendly competition at Kroc Center Field Day

BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV) — The energy was high at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Biloxi, where homeschool students from across the Gulf Coast gathered for a day packed with games, laughter, and connection.

It’s called Homeschool Field Day, and it’s all about fun-filled games, friendly competition, and good old-fashioned team-building.

From sack races and track and field, to balloon tosses and face painting, the event brought homeschoolers of all ages together for a memorable afternoon.

“We’re having fun at field day. So there was lots of races, snowcones, cotton candy and face paint,” said Stella Flint, one of the excited young participants.

Open to all homeschoolers, the event gave families a chance to make new friends, test their skills, and enjoy some outdoor fun. Families enrolled in the Spring 2025 Kroc Homeschool Program were able to join for free, while others could participate for just $10 per person.

Spencer Pullen of WXXV was on-site and got in on the action, noting one event stood out above the rest.

“It’s a battle of skill, focus and hand eye coordination. The Balloon toss, personally my favorite event here at this field day,” said Pullen.

Different age groups competed in a number of events, including sack races, track and field sprints, hula hooping, cart racing, and more.

“There is a balloon game going on right now and I raced in the 400 and the 100 and I got first in both of them,” said Kinsleigh Russell.

Parents also enjoyed seeing their children thrive outside of a traditional classroom setting.

“It’s been a wonderful experience getting to see their friends outside of the classroom, playing all these games with their teachers, and they’re having a great time and all,” said Amy Weiss, a parent attending the event.

“The Salvation Army has the best homeschool program where all the parents can be involved and they offer a variety of classes that I would highly recommend to any parent who wants to have that homeschool hands-on experience,” she added.

Whether they came to compete or just connect, these homeschool families left the Kroc Center with more than just ribbons — they left with lasting memories.
