Lakeview Nursing Center brings Waffle House experience to residents for National Waffle Day
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- Lakeview Nursing Center celebrated National Waffle Day with a Waffle House inspired breakfast for its residents.
The menu included waffles, grits, muffins, fresh fruit, and more, giving residents a variety of classic breakfast favorites to enjoy.
Family members, friends, and community partners also stopped by, turning the breakfast into an opportunity for residents to socialize and spend time with people they care about.
The event highlighted the value of bringing people into the facility to help residents stay engaged and connected to those around them. Lakeview Nursing Center resident John Hymes said, “It feels amazing. For us to get together and it’s almost like having a real-life experience inside the facility of Waffle House. I think it’s pretty cool.”
Lakeview Assessment Nurse Shalonda Kelley said, “Our residents are the most important reason why we come to work every day. We enjoy seeing them have a good time and partake in some of the things they wouldn’t normally be able to do. It gives them a sense of autonomy because a lot of them come in and they’ve lost that. Not being able to just go independently, as they normally would. So, this gives them a sense of normalcy.”
The nursing staff says they look forward to creating more opportunities like this to bring more joy into the nursing home.
